Elk Grove's softball team collected 3 more home runs in a 7-3 victory over visiting Wheeling on Wednesday.
The Grenadiers improved to 18-3 and 5-2 in the Mid-Suburban League East, remaining a half game ahead of Buffalo Grove (9-8 and 5-3).
Winning pitcher Megan Eul (12-2), who went 2-for-3, Shannon Taucher (2-for-4, double) and Marjorie Sloan each homered for the Grens, who now have 23 for the season.
Other multiple hitters for Elk Grove were Becca Maher (2-for-4, double) and Alex Masnica (2-for-3, double) while teammate Aleece Duffy also had a double.
Lauren Hart belted a 2-run homer for Wheeling (3-13, 2-6) in the fourth inning.
Barrington 3. Hoffman Estates 0: Junior Keenan Dolezal (14-7) struck out 10 and walked one while tossing a 2-hitter for visiting Barrington (15-8, 5-2) in the MSL West.
Kelly Katis, Kat Panos, Rachel Krzysko, Jennifer Inamoto and Liz Sweeney (2-for-3) each doubled for the Fillies while teammates Katie Dehnert went 2-for-4 and Taylor Moran 2-for-3.
Tracy Osimowicz and Kaileen Hendle had the hits for Hoffman (10-9, 2-5), who received 2 strikeouts from Charlotte Allan (3-8) and one from Osimowicz.
Buffalo Grove 15, Prospect 0 (5 inn.): Buffalo Grove (9-8, 5-3) collected 16 hits and took advantage of 6 errors.
Caitlin Catino (3-for-6, 2 runs, 2 doubles), Dea Barton (2-for-5, 3 runs 3 RBI), Katie Conley (3-for-3, 1 run, 2 RBI, double) and winning pitcher Julia Camardo (3-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI, double) led the Bison offense which also received doubles from Briann Steady and Cassie May.
Maggie Pancini had the 2 hits for Prospect (5-11, 2-5).
"We weren't ready to play today and Buffalo Grove took advantage of it," said Prospect coach Jim Adair. "They've got a good team. And they capitalized on our mistakes. We made a lot of errors on plays that we usually make. This was not our day. We'll just put it behind us and get ready for the next game."
Fremd 11, Palatine 3: Tracy Welninski went 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI for Fremd (12-6, 4-2) in the MSL West contest.
Other top hitters for the Vikings were Leigh Farina (2-for-5, 3 runs, triple), Abby Iuorio (2-for-4) and Alyssa Garcia (double).
Joanna Josten (8-4) went the first five innings (2 strikeouts) and Hailey Goodwin pitched the final 2 innings, striking out two.
Courtney English went 2-for-3 for the Pirates (4-15, 1-6)
Carmel 7, St. Viator 5: Sam Hogan had 4 hits, including a pair of doubles and 4 RBI for the visiting Lions (11-8, 3-3). Tess Kaiser and Gina Mastrodomenico each had 2 hits for St. Viator in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
Deerfield 9, Maine West 0: Sadie Argus, pitcher Grace Feldkamp, Monica Liwag and Abbey Herling had the only hits for Maine West (8-98, 3-2) in the CSL North contest.
