Undercover cops fight trafficking on Heroin Highway

Police from throughout the suburbs and city teamed up Tuesday afternoon to fight the trafficking of heroin along the Eisenhower Expressway. Operation Heroin Highway involved at least 38 officers from multiple agencies and netted six arrests. Full story.

Libertyville road closure looms

Libertyville sent out a "code red" to residents last night urging them to prepare for a five-day closure of Milwaukee Avenue beginning at 9 a.m. Friday. Emergency work will repair the entire Metra crossing on Milwaukee Avenue just north of Newberry Avenue. Residents are encouraged to walk, ride bikes or carpool and plan for extra travel time. Willowbrook man guilty of first-degree murder

A DuPage County jury found a 25-year-old Willowbrook man guilty of first-degree murder Tuesday for the shooting death of 18-year-old Joshua Holmes, of Downers Grove Township. Juan Cuellar, 25, faces 45 years to life in prison. Full story.

Driver's death caused by heart problem

A Chicago man who died after his semi veered off the road Monday in Palatine succumbed to heart problems, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy was performed Tuesday. Full story.

Aurora man accused of home invasion, kidnapping

An Aurora man broke into a home Monday and struck his child's mother before driving away with the child, police said. Jonathan Phillips, 25, was charged with home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated domestic battery, two counts of domestic battery and three counts of damage to property. Eventually, the child was returned by acquaintances of Phillips. Full story.

Income tax restructuring won't be on ballot

The push to change how the state of Illinois collects income taxes and the idea to raise rates on people with larger salaries died yesterday when lawmakers failed to call it to a vote. To add a constitutional amendment to the November ballot, the vote needed to be taken Tuesday. Full story.

Elgin council meets to discuss candidates

The Elgin City Council is expected to meet tonight to select which of 21 candidates will be picked for interviews May 7. Filling the empty council seat requires a five-vote majority and must be done by May 30. Full story.

Bulls eliminated from playoffs

The Washington Wizards eliminated the Bulls from the playoffs last night with a 75-69 victory at the United Center. Taj Gibson injured an ankle in the season-ending loss. The Bulls finished the season with 48 victories. Read Mike McGraw's take here.
