Campton Hills man gets 10 years prison for Corvette theft

A Campton Hills man who fled to Turkey instead of reporting to prison in 2011 was sentenced to 10 years in prison this week after pleading guilty to his role trying to sell a stolen Corvette.

Daniel R. Kellogg, 39, formerly of the 40W700 block of Grand Monde Drive and West Chicago, also must pay $31,525 in restitution after pleading guilty to felony theft, according to Kane County court records.

Judge John Barsanti approved the plea agreement, in which prosecutors dismissed other charges of felony forgery and possession of a stolen vehicle from May 2011.

The 10-year sentence must be served after Kellogg completes a five-year sentence issued in summer 2011 after he admitted his role in car burglaries outside a St. Charles health club from spring 2010.

For the Corvette offense, Kellogg was eligible for an extended prison term because of his extensive criminal record, which contains at least eight previous felony convictions for offenses ranging from retail theft and burglary to eavesdropping and writing bad checks on two or more occasions, record show.

A Kane County judge gave Kellogg a week to get his affairs in order before serving the five-year prison term in August 2011, but he never showed up.

He was arrested again in January 2013 after police received a tip he was back stateside and hiding at a St. Charles home.

Kellogg was convicted in February 2014 of felony escape; Barsanti issued Kellogg a year of court supervision for that offense, records show.
