Little Black Dress contest a highlight of juried fashion show

Coco Chanel introduced the little black dress as an essential staple of every woman's wardrobe back in the 1920s. Nearly a century later, students newest to Harper College's Fashion Design program will enter their designs into a little black dress and Chanel-inspired jacket competition. The contest for the audience's favorite ensemble, an award that comes with a cash prize, is one of the highlights of the breakfast and juried student fashion show taking place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

The annual event is an opportunity for fashion design students to receive critiques of their original works by more than 10 industry professionals such as designer Bobby Chi and Columbia College Assistant Professor Virginia Heaven, who's also a consultant for museum exhibitions and a former designer for BBC television.

The jury will choose the garments to be showcased in year-end Fashion Show on May 16. The juried show, which is open to the public, will be held at the Wojcik Conference Center on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine.

Tickets are $20 and support student scholarships. Contact the Box Office at 847.925.6100 or harpercollege.edu/boxoffice.
