Local robotics teams in world competition

The VEX Robotics World Championship last weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center in Rockwall, Texas, drew more than 15,000 participants from 27 countries on 760 of the world's best student-run robotics teams.

Teams from Bartlett High School and from the Fox Valley were among those that demonstrated their science, technology, engineering and math skills, going head-to-head with custom-built and programmed robots in an event sponsored by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation and the Northrop Grumman Foundation.

Team 1526B, DuPage-Kane STEM-VEX Robo, at Bartlett High School competed in the high school math division and ranked 78 out of 86, with one win, eight losses and one tie. Team 355E, Cobalt, Fox Valley Robotics, Batavia, competed in the high school arts division and ranked 55 out of 86. The ream had four wins, six losses and no ties.

Only 760 out of more than 10,000 teams made it to the competition. "We are impressed by all they have achieved, and excited about all the great opportunities opening up for them in their futures," said Jason Morrella, president of the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, in a news release.

The winning teams in various age and skill categories came from around the world, including China, Canada, Mexico and New Zealand. For a complete list of award winners, including winners of the online challenges, visit www.robotevents.com/championship.
