Man killed in wrong-way Crystal Lake crash ID'd

A man killed in a three-vehicle wreck Monday night on Pyott Road in Crystal Lake has been identified.

McHenry County Coronor Anne Majewski's office said John J. Moore, 43, of Crystal Lake, died as a result of his injuries in the crash that happened at about 5:45 p.m. on Pyott south of Rakow Road and near Lake in the Hills Airport.

The collision forced a partial shutdown of Pyott between Rakow and south of the airfield until late Monday evening.

A preliminary investigation shows a four-door Toyota was headed south on Pyott from Rakow when it crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a four-door Honda.

The third vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, was on northbound Pyott when it was hit by the Honda.

Police said Moore, the driver of the Honda, died at the crash scene. The Toyota driver who went into the wrong lane had what authorities described as life-threatening injuries and was brought Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.

The driver and a passenger in the Tahoe were taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.

One of the drivers had to be freed from the wreckage by Crystal Lake firefighters.

Crystal Lake police and the McHenry County coroner's office are investigating the crash. Police said no one was charged as of Monday night.
