Streamwood man charged with molesting teenage girl

A Streamwood man faces charges he molested a 14-year-old girl last year.

Angelo Cannata, 31, was ordered held on $150,000 bond Saturday. He was arrested Friday.

Prosecutors charge that Cannata sexually abused the girl in May 2013 while she slept at the home of a friend, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Brogan.

The girl told her sister she had been abused but refused to tell anyone else, Brogan said. The girl's mother confronted the teen in August after noticing a change in her daughter's behavior, Brogan said.

Cannata's background includes a 2000 conviction for reckless discharge of a firearm, for which he received a two-year sentence, Brogan said. He received probation in 2002 after pleading guilty to obstructing justice. He also has several misdemeanor convictions, including DUI and reckless conduct, Brogan said.

If convicted, Cannata could face three to seven years in prison.
