Dundee historical group celebrates 50th anniversary

The Dundee Township Historical Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the museum, 426 Highland Ave. in West Dundee.

Join them at the museum to celebrate a half century of service to Dundee Township. Travel down memory lane to view a special display of photos and local artifacts rarely exhibited.

For more information, call the museum at (847) 428-6996 or look for the Dundee Township Historical Society on Facebook.

The historical society is taking donations for its annual summer garage sale. Think of the museum as you do your spring cleaning. Any household items (old or new), small furniture, art work, books, antiques and collectibles, toys, bikes, etc. would be appreciated. No clothing please (unless vintage). Christmas items will be saved for the fourth annual "Dickens of a Sale" in December.

The museum will present special programs throughout the summer at The Depot in East Dundee.

The tentative schedule includes: May 10, "The Story of Ann Russell, Pioneer Woman"; June 7, "The Life and Times of Jesse Oatman"; July 5, "The Underground Railroad"; Aug. 23, "One Room School Houses; and Oct. 25, "Burial Traditions and Superstitions." All programs will be presented inside The Depot at 11 a.m. Come shop the market, meet your neighbors and catch up on local history.
