Weather suspends Huntley, Cary-Grove in tie

The score was tied at 1-1, with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division softball game between visiting Huntley and host Cary-Grove, when heavy rains came to suspend the game on Monday afternoon.

The game will be completed when the teams meet for their second scheduled game of the season on May 19 at Huntley.

Huntley (11-7, 3-2), which left 8 runners on base, scored its lone run in the fourth on an RBI single by Tamara Funke.

Cary-Grove (9-7, 4-1) responded in the bottom of the inning with a run-scoring single by Brianne Prank.

In 4⅓ innings of work in the pitchers circle, Huntley freshman Michelle Caputi struck out 6 Trojans while hitting 2 batters. She allowed 1 run on 2 hits

Cary-Grove's Amanda DeGroote, who gave up 1 run on 5 hits in 5 innings, collected 4 strikeouts with 3 walks.

Megan Larson, with a double, was 2-for-2 and scored the Red Raiders' lone run while Megan Baczewski was also a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish.

Prank and Caitlyn Adams contributed the lone hits for the Trojans.
