• The Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance invites student musicians of all ages to audition for the Academy and Philharmonic orchestras for its 2014-15 season. Auditions are also being held for any instrumentalist who would like to participate in a "Summer Symphony" program (including students home from college), which culminates in a concert on Sunday, June 29. Strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion players should prepare a solo or étude, scales and excerpts for the audition. Auditions are scheduled for Sunday, May 4 (or by appointment), at the Eden Supportive Living Center, off I-88 and Route 31, North Aurora. • The Summer Place has auditions for its July production of "9 to 5: The Musical" at two different locations: From 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at The Alfred E. Rubin Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave., Naperville, and from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at The Barn Recreation Center, 421 W. Martin Ave., Naperville. • Fox Valley Repertory seeks students between the ages of 8 to 18 to audition for its youth ensemble and tuition-based summer production of Disney's "Aladdin Jr." from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. • City Lit Theater Company seeks submissions to The Art of Adaptation, the company's annual festival of stage adaptations of nondramatic literature, which runs from Friday through Sunday, June 13-15, at 1020 W. • The Lyric Opera of Chicago auditions highly trained dancers with classical ballet experience (including pointe work) and strong acting experience for its October 2014 production of Richard Strauss' opera "Capriccio" featuring choreography by Val Caniparoli. The production requires four dancers (two men, two women) who will rotate in the central pas de deux sequence. Male dancers must have strong partnering skills. Auditions are by appointment only (the submission deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, May 5) and will be held starting at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago. • Registration begins Monday, May 5, for Schaumburg on Stage's musical theater performance camp production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," which runs from Tuesday, July 1, to Thursday, July 31. The production is tuition-based. For information, visit schaumburgonstage.org.

• Citadel Theatre Company has auditions for Shakespeare's romantic comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at 300 S. Waukegan Road, Lake Forest. • Victory Gardens seeks submissions for its 2014 IGNITION Festival of New Plays, which takes place from Monday through Sunday, July 21-27. The fourth IGNITION festival will create a productive environment for both emerging and established playwrights to explore and develop their new work. • Timber Street Theater Company has auditions for the 1992 Tony Award-Winning musical "Crazy for You" featuring music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, May 19-20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. • Elgin Summer Theatre has auditions for the award-winning musical "Rent" from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, May 19-21, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Those auditioning should be age 16 or older and be prepared to sing a 60-second selection from "Rent" or a rock power ballad a cappella. A dance sequence will also be taught. • The Lyric Opera of Chicago has dance auditions for its upcoming production of Richard Wagner's "Tannhauser," a revival of Tim Albery's London production, at noon Saturday, May 24, and at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the Joffrey Tower, 10 E. Randolph St., Chicago. "Tannhauser" requires six solo female dancers (plus one cover) and six solo male dancers (plus one cover) with strong ballet technique and dramatic skills (the choreography involves brief moments of topless onstage nudity).
