Aspiring writers and seasoned authors alike are invited to attend the two remaining workshops in the "Inside Writing and Publishing" series offered annually at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. The workshops are free, but require registration. To register, call (847) 923-3347 or visit the Information Desk on the library's second floor.

Writers will learn the techniques of building better bad guys from DePaul University creative writing professor Rebecca Johns, author of "The Countess: A Novel of Elizabeth Barthory" and "Icebergs," a PEN/Hemingway finalist work. Attendees will receive handouts and participate in writing exercises.

"Power Platforms for Authors" will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 29, in the Rasmussen North Room. The mysteries of marketing books will be revealed in this interactive workshop for writers, presented by librarian Amy Alessio, author of "Taking the High Ground" as well as several nonfiction titles. Social networking, presentations and branding are featured. These final two installments of "Inside Writing and Publishing" will be full of valuable information and handouts.
