Staley, Jones help Lake Zurich win
Trevor Staley went 3-for-3, Nick Jones was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Lake Zurich's baseball team held off host Grant 8-7in a North Suburban Conference crossover Friday.
Lake Zurich (9-6) got 2 hits apiece from Danny Neises (2 RBI), Steven Vanstedum (2 RBI) and Joey Holtz.
Derek Kornfeind earned the win, and D.J. Postilion notched the save.
Ryan Noda hit a 3-run homer - his seventh of the season - in the bottom of the seventh for Grant (14-3), which lost its second game in a row.
Libertyville 13, Wauconda 0: Evan Skoug and Noah Greenberg homered for the visiting Wildcats in the North Suburban crossover.
Jimmy Govern had a double for Libertyville (15-2).
Grayslake Central 8, Crystal Lake Central 4: Matt Loeffl had 3 hits, and Kyle Clark contributed a pair for the host Rams in Fox Valley Conference action.
Junior David Llorens picked up his first varsity win, tossing 3 innings and striking out three. Senior Mike Stone threw 3 scoreless frames.
Leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Grayslake Central (10-8, 5-4) plated 3 runs. The Rams got RBI singles from Loeffl and Clark and a pinch-hit run-scoring double from Drew Garbett.
Warren 14, Antioch 8: The Blue Devils received 2-for-3 efforts from Ben Dinter (RBI, run, walk), Wes Gordon (double, 2 walks, RBI, 4 runs) and Andrew Nickell (5 RBI, 2 walks) in the North Suburban crossover.
Jay Nickell notched the win, as Warren improved to 12-5-1.
Antioch got doubles from Collin Prather (3-for-4) and Bob Hamilton. Nick Muskat was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Sequoits.
