Softball/Fox Valley roundup

Huntley's softball team took advantage of 4 Crystal Lake South errors and Brittany Koss had 3 hits and an RBI Thursday as the Red Raiders downed the Gators 9-3 in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action at Huntley.

Tamara Funke added a triple and an RBI for Huntley (8-7, 3-2), while Haley Spannraft dominated the circle, giving up just 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits.

Caitlin Fater and Taylor Kassel each had a double and an RBI for the Gators (6-6, 1-4). Hailee Massie took the loss after only giving up 2 earned runs.

Burlington Central 14, Rockford Christian 0: Brooke Gaylord and Courtni Neubauer combined to toss a no-hitter in five innings as the Rockets (10-6, 5-1) won easily in the Big Northern East. Gaylord started and earned the win as she combined with Neubauer to strike out 14 and walk just 1. Kassidy Gaylord and Tori Harvey each had a double while Bekah Harnish crushed a home run and added a single to drive in 4 runs.

Cary-Grove 12, Dundee-Crown 2: Having the game in hand and leading 9-2 after three innings, the Trojans (9-5, 5-1) added 3 more in the bottom of the sixth to run-rule the Chargers in FVC Valley action. Amy Clemment scored 2 times on 3 hits and drove in 3 while teammate Sarah Kendeigh blasted a 3-run homer and drove in another to finish with 4 RBI. Caitlyn Adams earned the win after throwing 4 innings of 5-hit ball, allowing just 2 runs. For the Chargers (2-6, 0-5), Megan Emerson drove in both runs with a 2-run shot in the third inning. Lauren Girard took the loss.

McHenry 11, Jacobs 3: Despite scoring in the top of the first inning, the Golden Eagles (11-7, 2-4) were down 10-1 by the fifth and could not come back, losing for the third time this week in the FVC Valley. Alyssa Lach doubled and scored Sarah Murray to begin the game. Tyler Belo also doubled and drove in a run. Kelsey Peters, who took the loss, was the first of three Golden Eagle pitchers to get touched up by McHenry.

Neuqua Valley 10, Elgin 2: Errors cost the Maroons (8-7, 4-2) 5 runs and their second loss in a row in Upstate Eight Conference action. Jennah Perryman provided the offense for Elgin, as she blasted a homer in the third inning, scoring Anna Eckholm, to tie the game at 2. Perryman was also in the circle, throwing all 6 innings and giving up 10 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits to go with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Wheaton North 6, South Elgin 3: After going run-for-run in the early going, the Storm (8-8) could not respond late, falling in a nonconference game. Sam Helton singled and drove in a pair to tie the game at 2 in the third. Paige Allen and Alyssa Buddle each had a double as well. Karli Dobler gave up 6 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits for her second loss of the year.

Westminster Christian 7, Alden-Hebron 5: Jessi Sutter jump-started the offense from the leadoff position, getting 3 hits and scoring 3 times as the Warriors (3-6, 3-1) won in the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Sutter also added 2 stolen bases and an RBI. Becca Fugiel (2B, RBI) and Sarah Schmitt (2-for-3, RBI) also contributed. Rachel Fugiel earned the win giving up just 2 earned runs.
