Centennial Beach adds fitness programs, member benefits for 2014

Preparations are underway for the opening of Naperville's Centennial Beach on Saturday, May 24. Additional behind-the-scenes preparation for the beach season has included planning new programs, installing new amenities, hiring summer staff and redesigning the Centennial Beach website.

"We are pleased to announce that the Centennial Beach website, centennialbeach.org, has a new look, featuring photos, a visitors' guide, details about membership, hours, programs, and everything our patrons need to know about the beach," Director of Marketing and Communications Sameera Luthman said.

"The website was redesigned completely in-house and is now ready for the 2014 beach season."

A quick glance at the new website will show familiar programs, such as swim lessons, Mudrats swim team, diving and water polo, as well as new fitness programs, including Beachside Yoga, Aqua Zumba and Open Water Triathlon Training.

"Centennial Beach offers a peaceful, beautiful setting that can be perfect for yoga," Aquatics Manager Andrea Coates said. "And we're excited to be able to offer triathlon training and water-based programs like Aqua Zumba."

Also new in 2014 is the addition of a permanent bag toss near the sand volleyball courts.

Centennial Beach is open to residents and nonresidents, with daily passes and season memberships available. Those who plan to visit the beach more than a few times will find that purchasing a membership provides the best value.

The Early Bird rate, a 20 percent discount, for Centennial Beach memberships is available until 5 p.m. Monday, May 12. Beach memberships will include two new benefits in 2014: a 10 percent discount at Centennial Grill and two member appreciation nights.

Beach memberships may be renewed online or by mail. New memberships can be purchased at the park district's Administration Building, 320 W. Jackson Ave., or the 95th Street Center, 2244 W. 95th St.

Centennial Beach is staffed by a dedicated team of lifeguards, swim instructors and guest services staff. Some lifeguard positions may be available. For details, visit napervilleparks.org/employment.
