Bicycle-van collision kills Roselle man, 47
Police are investigating an accident that killed a bicyclist in Roselle Tuesday morning.
Efron Diaz-Torres, 47, of Roselle, died after a collision with a van driven by a 63-year-old Roselle man at 6:09 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The van was heading east on Rosemont Avenue and making a left-hand turn onto northbound Roselle Road, police Sgt. John Lawson said.
"We don't know if the bicyclist struck him or if he struck the bicyclist right now," Lawson said, adding that police also don't know which way the bicyclist was headed.
A helicopter came to the scene, but firefighters took Diaz-Torres by ambulance to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.
It is unclear when the man was pronounced dead, but Lawson said he was still alive at the scene.
A Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman said cause of death had not yet been determined.
The intersection where Diaz-Torres was hit is adjacent to Turner Park.
"It's not uncommon to see a lot of people in that area," Lawson said.
