Defense attorney Hugh Toner sought the continuance Thursday, saying he needed time to examine new evidence given him by prosecutors. State's Attorney Jerry Brady also declined to comment on the nature of the new evidence.

Leuthold has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the Feb. 14, 2013 death of Denise Leuthold.

Authorities accuse him of staging a break-in at their home and shooting the woman to death.

Nathan Leuthold is being held in lieu of $2 million bond.
