Downtown Batavia water main replacement starts Monday

Expect a little difficulty getting down Houston Street in downtown Batavia next week. The city will start replacing a water main, from Batavia Avenue to Island Avenue, starting Monday.

A new main will also be installed on Water Street between Wilson Street and Houston.

Water division officials warn the roads might be temporarily closed, and water service will be interrupted. It hopes to finish the work by May 31.

The city has hired S&K Excavating and Trucking of Newark to do the job, for $549,784. It will put a 12-inch main on Houston, and an 8-inch main on Water.

Anyone with a project related concern is asked to call John Dillon, the water and sewer superintendent, at (630) 454-2453, or email him at jdillon@cityofbatavia.net.
