Foundation Welcomes New Intern

Dunlap's responsibilities as an intern include writing feature stories for the Foundation's newsletter, in which he will focus on highlighting the impact of the Foundation's grantmaking throughout DuPage County. Additionally, he will support the Foundation's social media efforts and report to Joelyn Kott, marketing & communications officer.

Currently in his senior year at Elmhurst College, Dunlap is a Philosophy and Intercultural Studies double major and presently serves as the opinions editor of Elmhurst College's student-run newspaper, The Leader. Attendant to his interests in writing, Dunlap is also considering work in community organizing, and sees the Foundation as a "fitting" opportunity.

"Before the Foundation, I was skeptical I would find work experience so unique to my interests," Dunlap said. "With the Foundation, I am able to do some professional writing, which I

love, and for an organization tailored to serving the county where I live."

Though originally from Rockford, IL, Dunlap lives in Elmhurst and works in a local coffee shop there. Aside from his self-proclaimed "coffee obsession," Dunlap loves to read and write in

his free time, and has recently been working to get some of his original creative non-fiction and poetry published.

"I've been very fortunate and grateful for many things in my life," said Dunlap. "Working for a not-for-profit like the Foundation is a perfect outlet for me to use the skills and privileges I have to the advantage of the community."

Dunlap will be with the Foundation at least through May 2014, and will be working with Kott in order to further develop the Foundation's community-image moving forward.

About The DuPage Community Foundation:

The DuPage Community Foundation seeks to raise the quality of life throughout DuPage County by fostering philanthropy, connecting donors to area needs and building community partnerships. Based on the American virtues of volunteerism and philanthropy, the Foundation fosters a legacy of support for the people of DuPage County by making grants to not-for-profit organizations working in the areas of arts and culture, education, environment, health, and human services. Since its inception, the Foundation has built its endowment to more than $50 million and

awarded more than $17 million in grants to not-for-profit agencies serving the residents of

DuPage County and beyond.

Established in 1986, The DuPage Community Foundation is a publicly-supported 501(c)(3) organization to which contributions are tax deductible. It was created to benefit the people of DuPage County and receives contributions and bequests into a permanent endowment from individuals, corporations, organizations and foundations wishing to make lasting contributions to

the people of DuPage. The earnings on these funds are then used, in accordance with donor wishes, for the Foundation's grantmaking and community leadership activities.
