Hoffman Estates rallies but comes up short
After falling behind 5-0 after two innings to visiting Addison Trail, Hoffman Estates gradually inched closer before falling 5-4 in the nonconference softball game Thursday.
The Hawks got to within 1 run after 4 innings and had a runner on third base in the sixth and seventh innings.
"We just couldn't quite get that next run to tie the game," said Hawks coach Lindsey Hamma, whose team is 4-3.
Junior Charlotte Allan pitched the first three innings and sophomore Tracy Osimowicz went the final four, giving up only 1 hit and no runs.
"Tracy had a bunch of assists, too," Hamma said. "She had a real good defensive game."
The offense for Hoffman was led by senior Sam Acosta (2-for-3, 2 stolen bases) and sophomore Jordyn Fera (2-of-4, stolen base).
Junior Caitlyn Farina belted her first double on the varsity, giving the Hawks their only extra base hit in the game.
Loyola 11, Hersey 3: The Huskies are 3-3-1 after the nonconference loss in Wilmette.
New Trier 8, Maine West 0: Maine West (3-6) fell to New Trier (4-1) in the Central Suburban League crossover contest in Winnetka.
