Behan's blasts carry Carmel

Jenny Behan had her second 2-homer game of the season, and Carmel Catholic's softball team clubbed 5 home runs total in a 14-0 rout of Resurrection in nonconference action Thursday.

Carmel (5-4) also got homers from Kathleen Felicelli, Sarah Koesser and sophomore Erin Warzecha, who belted a grand slam. Behan and Felicelli each finished 3-for-4, while Emma Bartz was 3-for-3 with a double. Koesser, Claire Petrus (2 runs) and Warzecha (2 runs) each had a pair of hits. Winning pitcher Mia Dicara threw all 5 innings, striking out three.

Libertyville 14, Vernon Hills 4: The visiting Wildcats won in five innings, improving to 9-0 with the North Suburban Conference crossover win, as Haley Alban homered and Jessie Lauret went 3-for-4 with 3 stolen bases, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Andi Katz (2 RBI), Jamie Stevens (2 runs) and Taylor Zoellick each had 2 hits. Libertyville also got extra-base hits from Katz (double), Michael Mooney (double), Stevens (triple) and Tayler Oberman (triple), who scored three times and stole two bases. Kenzie Rother was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Carlie Haraden earned the win.

"It was an all-around team win," Wildcats coach Elissa Wisniewski said. "We got contributions from everyone in the lineup. We had great presence on defense to work out of jams and limit damage."

Vernon Hills (1-9) got 2 hits apiece from Sami Saliba (double, 2 RBI) and Rose Ferolo (2 RBI).

Wauconda 6, Zion-Benton 1: Kayla Wedl's eye-popping pitchers numbers got even better.

The sophomore right-hander struck out 10, didn't walk a batter and allowed only 5 hits, as the host Bulldogs improved to 9-0 with the North Suburban crossover win.

For the season, Wedl (6-0) has 64 strikeouts and only 1 walk.

Wedl led Wauconda offensively against Z-B, too, going 3-for-4. Alyssa Wagner's second-inning double drove in the game's first run. Jena Heck and Taylor McCarthy (double) each had 2 hits for Wauconda, while Lauren Nee contributed a triple.

Lake Zurich 8, Lakes 1: McKenna Larson went 4-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI, and Mallory Parsons was 3-for-4 with an RBI, as the Bears captured the North Suburban crossover.

Vivian Juarez (2 stolen bases, RBI), Brittney Pettinger (triple, 2 RBI) and Carlee Parsons (RBI) each had a pair of hits for Lake Zurich (8-1).

Olivia Schneider pitched 5 shutout innings of four-hit ball for the win.

Stevenson 22, North Chicago 0: Sophomore Ruby Mankus fired a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 10 in the North Suburban crossover, and she also got her first varsity hit.

Stevenson (3-8) received 4-for-4 efforts from Lexi Yonkovic, Dana Morgan and Kat Trotter (4 RBI). Taylor Koenigs, Jordan Cortesi (4 RBI) and Molly Thon were all 3-for-3.

Patriots sophomore Myra Peterson also picked up her first varsity hit.
