Search is on for next Barrington superintendent

The search for a new superintendent for Barrington Community Unit School District 220 will begin Monday with the first of four, and potentially many more, closed-door school board meetings.

On Tuesday, the board announced that Superintendent Tom Leonard would be taking a superintendent job at a school district in Austin, Texas. The board said it intends to select Leonard's replacement before the end of this school year.

The board will meet at The Garlands in Barrington the next two Mondays and Tuesdays to discuss the search and potential replacements.

District spokesman Jeff Arnett said the board also will meet with and select an administrative search firm to help narrow their options. The board rescheduled its next regular meeting to April 29, after the superintendent search meetings.
