April 25-27: CLC Dance Department presents 16th Annual Fear No Art
An exciting variety of dance, music, poetry and art created by CLC students and faculty is on tap during the College of Lake County's 16th Fear No Art festival.
Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.
The dance department's final event embraces original works by a variety of creative artists, with more than 50 students involved in the production. The artistic director of Fear No Art is Valerie Alpert, CLC dance instructor.
The dance portion of the program will include original choreography by CLC students and faculty, in modern, ballet and tap. Fear No Art will also include original music composed and performed by the local band, Leonardo's Cipher. Original poetry and spoken word will be presented by Chicago artist Andy Karol and CLC student North Rory Homeward of Vernon Hills. Singers will perform a wide range of music, including songs by Handel and Frank Sinatra and from the musical "Wicked."
In the lobby, four visual artists will display their creative works: Michele Colice-Cadwell (metal, acrylic and oil); Otto Krueger (costume rendering/costumes), Abby Nierman (photography) and Elizabeth Szymczak (painting).
Tickets: Regular $10; CLC/Senior/Teen/JLC Subscribers $8; children under 12, $4. Prices include a $1 JLC facility fee. At the end of CLC's summer session, the Dance department will present 2014 Summer Dance Showcase, Aug. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts. It is free and open to the community.
