Warrenville karate team earns national awards
The 2013 tournament circuit experienced an explosive showing by the fledgling Baekwoon Mu Sul Tigers karate team led by Senseis Jeremy and Elijah Talbott. At the 2013 American Karate Association (AKA) awards banquet held Saturday, April 5, the team cemented its national standings.
Three team members-Brady Collins, Zachary Self, and Matthew Ingram-earned national champion status within their respective age and competition categories. Nine more team members-Alex Raymundo, Sanny Mohan, Oumar Diop, Jace Woolwine, Logan Chin, Blaise Chin, Marius Chrapka, Corrine Ma, and Cristobal Morales-earned top-ten honors. During the ceremonies, Sensei Jeremy received a promotion to 3rd degree black belt under Sensei John Sharkey of Sharkey's Karate Studio in Naperville. This was a great honor for Sensei Jeremy who currently holds a fourth degree black belt in Korean Kumdo and Taekwondo.
The 2013 AKA tournament circuit spanned December 2012 - November 2013 and included team members competing in multiple tournaments in the greater Chicago area.
"The 2013 season was a great start for this team. For many of our members, this was their first year of competing in martial art tournaments," says Sensei Jeremy Talbott. "Throughout the year we have taught them how to set goals and work hard to achieve them. All of them have done just that. Through their hard work and efforts, they are starting to see the fruits of their labor by earning these national championships and top ten honors. As their coach and instructor I am very pleased with their efforts and look forward to another great year."
The 2014 AKA tournament circuit is well underway with a larger, stronger Baekwoon Mu Sul Tigers presence than last year. The team has become known among the circuit as tough competition in most categories.
About the Team
Formed in 2011, The Baekwoon Mu Sul Tigers (Warrenville, Ill.), has grown from one team member to 18. In the 2013 season, the team produced four national champions and seven national top-10 competitors within the American Karate Association, one of the oldest tournament circuits in the United States.
