Sweeney's sweet swing lifts Barrington
Sophomore Liz Sweeney came through in the clutch for the Barrington softball team on Wednesday at the Fields of Dreams.
With a full count in the bottom of the sixth inning and runners on first and second, Sweeney delivered a base hit.
An error on the play resulted in 2 runs scoring, and they stood up for the Fillies (7-2) in a 4-3 decision over Marengo.
Kelly Katis (2-for-3) and Jennifer Inamoto (2-for-3, double, 2 runs) began the sixth inning with base hits setting up Sweeney's big hit.
Keenan Dolezal (6-2) notched the win with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Jenna Fingerman also doubled for Barrington.
Elk Grove 16, Maine West 2 (5 inn.): Host Elk Grove improved to 7-1 behind pitcher Megan Eul (3 innings) and freshman Taylor Leach (2 innings). Eul is now 6-0.
Becca Maher (2-for-3), who led off the bottom of the first with her second homer of the season, and Melissa Picchi (2-for-3) were multiple hitters for Grens.
Brooke Barges added a 2-run homer and Sarah Pauscher a 3-run homer for Elk Grove.
Top hitters for the Warriors (3-5) were pitcher Grace Feldkamp (2-for-3, RBI), Sadie Argus (1-for-3, home run) and Kati Roycroft (1-for-2, run).
Rolling Meadows 8, Taft 3: Meadows got its first win and sophomore Meghan Slowik collected her first varsity hit.
Slowik's two-out 2-run single to right center in the bottom of the fifth inning was one of 8 hits by the Mustangs (1-6).
Two of the hits were doubles by Lane Winkler (2-for-4, RBI) and Maddie Morgan.
Grace Skorin also went 2-for-4 while winning pitcher Lauren Hattory (1-5) struck out eight.
Lake Zurich 9, Schaumburg 1: Elaine Walker (2-for-3, walk RBI) and Shannon Felde (2-3) were multiple hitters for the Saxons (3-2) while Paige Alt and pitcher Roxanne Kakareka each had 1 hit.
Willowbrook 12, Wheeling 1 ( 5 inn): Katie Quagliano had a double while Lauren Hart (1-for-2, RBI), Christie Ambrose, Nikki Mikosz and Megan Olsen had the other hits for the visiting Wildcats (0-2).
Alyssa Ressinger belted 3 homers with 6 RBI for Willowbrook.
