Suburban Law Enforcement Academy Graduates Class of 59 Recruits

The Suburban Law Enforcement Academy at College of DuPage recently graduated 59 recruits representing 38 police agencies in Northern Illinois.

The ceremony honored the recruits for completing 12 weeks - 480 hours - of basic law enforcement officer training which began in January.

Six special awards were presented to the recruits. Officer Jonathan Sokolnik of the Wilmette Police Department was presented the Firearms Proficiency Award. Officer Rebecca Loeb of the Libertyville Police Department was presented with the Academic Achievement Award. Officer Thomas Barkei of the Morton Grove Police Department received the Best Overall Physical Fitness Award and Officer Brett Lettieri of the Northlake Police Department received the Most Improved Physical Fitness Award and the Leadership Award. Officer Andrew Pratt of the Evergreen Park Police Department earned the George Graves Award for being selected as the most distinguished recruit by his fellow officers in the class. All award winners received plaques with their names engraved.

SLEA Director Michael Casey addressed the assembly of approximately 700 guests made up of the graduates' family members as well as representatives of the recruit officer's employing agencies. The keynote speaker was Chief Steve Neubauer of the Tinley Park Police Department, who welcomed the graduates to the law enforcement profession.
