Huntley hands hard-luck loss to Conant's Downey

Conant's Luke Downey tossed a gem on Friday, but he got left out in the cold as host Huntley earned a 1-0 victory in nonconference play.

Downey allowed just 4 hits, only one of them for extra bases, a double, in 6 innings.

But the Red Raiders' pitching was even stingier.

Nick Costantino pitched 4 innings for Huntley and allowed the only Conant hit of the day (to Anthony Forte). Jake Ciskowski (2 innings) and Adam Kalish (1 inning) shared in the shutout.

Notre Dame 5, Elk Grove 4: Sam Ferri's line-drive single off the pitcher's glove provided the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as Notre Dame prevailed in a rematch two program who met in a regional final last spring.

Elk Grove led a 3-0 lead after 3 innings, but Notre Dame scored 2 runs in both the fourth and fifth to tie it at 4-4.

Johnny Assimakopoulos and Josh Bergbreiter had a pair of hits and Matt Wary drove in a run for Elk Grove.

Adnan Sator earned the win with 3⅔ scoreless relief innings. The Kansas commit scattered 3 hits, struck out two and allowed no walks.

Adam O'Malley suffered the loss. Daryl Rivera allowed 2 runs in 4 innings for the Grens (2-2).

Libertyville 12, Palatine 2: Nolan Gavin had a pair of hits and drove in both Palatine runs, but visiting Libertyville did too much damage with its own bats in a nonconference victory. Chris Macahon and Matt Saltess each had a hit and scored, and Nick Orlando doubled for the Pirates.

Buffalo Grove 8, Glenbrook North 8: The Bison scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to force a deadlock before play was suspended. Brendon Murphy had 3 hits and drove in 2 runs for Buffalo Grove. Dan Levato had 2 hits and 1 RBI, and Jeremy Firszt doubled for the Bison (0-2-1).

Barrington 9, Prairie Ridge 8: The hosts Broncos were able to weather a 4-run rally in the top of the seventh by the visiting Wolves to pick up a nonconference victory. The Broncos outhit PR 11-5 and got a triple from Daniel Kubiuk.
