CLC's Student Art Competition exhibit opens April 11

A variety of artwork by College of Lake County students will be on display April 11 to May 17 at the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art on the Grayslake campus.

The 33rd annual CLC Student Art Competition is a juried exhibit featuring paintings, drawings, computer graphics, photography, ceramics, jewelry, digital media and sculpture.

At the opening reception, which will be from 7-9 p.m. April 11, CLC will award approximately $1,200 in cash prizes and purchase awards. In addition, the Lake County Art League will present a $500 scholarship, the CLC art faculty will sponsor two emerging artist awards, Student Activities will sponsor four awards of merit and one honorable mention, and the Steve Mendelson Memorial Award for $200 will be presented.

The winners will be announced at 8:15 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public and will include refreshments and music by Jazz Spectrum.

The exhibit's juror is Nina Weiss, artist and adjunct instructor of art, School of the Art Institute, Chicago.

In conjunction with the exhibit is a ceramics show titled "The Cup II: 60 Artists, 300 Variations" in the Artcetera Gallery. The show is a national invitational ceramics exhibit guest curated by Ben Bates, CLC ceramics instructor.

"The Cup II" runs through April 13, and pieces from the exhibit will be for sale during the reception. For information, visit artceteragallery.blogspot.com.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday/Saturday; 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Patrons should enter through the C Wing and proceed toward the Library/Learning Resource Center. The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art on the Grayslake campus is a project of the College of Lake County Foundation and is at 19351 W. Washington St. Established by the CLC Foundation in 1981, the gallery is committed to displaying the works of Illinois artists and increasing the visibility of nationally known artists in Lake County.

The gallery promotes tours and educational programs in conjunction with its exhibitions.
