Des Plaines Garden Club wins awards

The Garden Clubs of Illinois, Inc., District IX, held its 35th annual meeting on March 11, and awarded its Club Horticulture Award and Gold Seal Certificate Award to the Des Plaines Garden Club.

To receive this award, a club must have regular horticulture programs at monthly meetings, have a plant sale, a club plant exchange, participate in Earth Day and plant and maintain a Butterfly Garden, just to name a few activities.

The club was also presented with the Club Achievement Award. This award was received for outstanding overall club accomplishments in regards to membership, flower show, horticulture and civic projects, youth activities, donations to projects and programs as well as many other projects.

This years' annual meeting was co-hosted by the Des Plaines Garden Club and the Park Ridge Garden Club and held at Manzo's Banquets in Des Plaines. After lunch, Robert Neri of Robert's Floral Design Studio, which is located in Chicago, presented a floral program combining elements of design with his own artistic flair, transforming flowers into works of art.
