Man, 28, charged with UIC shower assault

Authorities say a 28-year-old man is facing charges for assaulting a University of Illinois at Chicago student in a dorm shower.

UIC spokesman Bill Burton says Tavares Humphries is charged with attempted murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, residential burglary and battery of a police officer for Monday morning's attack.

It wasn't immediately clear if Humphries has an attorney and his telephone number wasn't listed.

Officials say students who also lived in the dorm heard the attack and were able to keep the man from leaving until police arrived.

Campus officials say they're investigating how he was able to access the dorm.

They're also increasing campus patrols.
