Bring the kids out to fish in McHenry County

The McHenry County Conservation District will host a Family Fishing Fun Fair Saturday, April 5. Choose from one of three sessions at different locations offered throughout the county:

• 7 to 9 a.m. at the Rush Creek Conservation Area's four-acre pond in Harvard.

• 10 a.m. to noon at the Pleasant Valley Conservation Area's two-acre pond in Woodstock.

• 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fel-Pro RRR West Entrance's one-acre West Pond in Cary. It is a .4 mile walk-in from parking lot to pond.

Spend time with district biologists and fishing experts as they host a "put and take" rainbow trout fishing experience for children younger than 16. All family members can take part in the onshore activities, but fishing is for kids only and is intended to excite youth about the sport of fishing. Highlights include tips and techniques for trout fishing.

During each session, a limited amount of equipment will be available for use, as well as free bait, fishing maps, giveaways, rules and regulations, and information on Illinois fish species.

Each location has been chosen specifically to offer the best fishing opportunities for families with children younger than 16. No registration is required.
