A Countryside Fire Protection District ambulance responded about 4:27 p.m. to the crash on Midlothian Road just south of Wortham Drive. Martin, the driver of a four-door sedan, was taken in critical condition to Condell, Countryside Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ed Heinz said.

Three people in a BMW SUV -- a 40-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl -- were taken to Condell with injuries that were not life-threatening, Heinz said.

The Lake County sheriff's office is investigating the crash.

Mundelein Fire Department also responded.
