Iconography workshop unveils liturgical art form in Aurora

St. George Byzantine Catholic Church in Aurora is hosting an Iconography Workshop April 7-11 at the church at 720 Rural St., Aurora.

This is an introduction to the liturgical art of the Christian East by iconographer Phil Zimmerman.

The icon to be written is Christ the Bridegroom (the suffering of Christ during his passion), an icon used in the liturgies of Holy Week.

Painting and presentations will be held each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Great artistic talent is not required and supplies are included in the $300 registration fee.

The registration deadline is Monday, March 31, but interested participants should register immediately as space is limited.

Registrants do not have to be parishioners of St. George. For more information or to register, call (630) 851-4002. Visit stgeorgeaurora.org.

Since 2002, St. George has hosted an iconography workshop. Students are taught the techniques and theology of writing icons over the course of a one-week session.
