Naperville Park District seeks volunteers to spruce up parks

With spring officially arriving last week, we all look forward to the amazing transformation that will occur in our winter-weary landscape over the next month.

As we go from snow on the ground to blossoms on the trees, the Naperville Park District is looking for community volunteers who are willing to put on rain boots, work gloves and warm jackets to help spruce up our parks.

Corporate groups, Scout troops, churches, high school environmental clubs, neighborhoods, families and other community groups are welcome to participate. Park maintenance tasks include litter pick up, weeding, mulching, removing twigs, and other activities.

Some of the parks especially in need of assistance include the following:

• Garlic mustard removal (groups of 15 or more) at Knoch Knolls Park, 336 Knoch Knolls Road and Springbrook Parkway, 2359 Nottingham Lane;

• Prairie seeding (any number) at DuPage River Park, 808 Royce Road;

• Litter collection around ponds (any number) at Ashbury Park, 1740 Conan Doyle Road; Brighton Ridge Park, 775 Torrington Drive; Brook Crossings, 1015 95th St.; Clow Creek Greenway, 4588 Pradel Drive; Hobson West Ponds, 1047 S. West St.; Springbrook Crossings, 1211 Leverenz Road; Summerfield Lake, 2003 Skylane Drive; Tall Grass Lakes, 3320 Rollingridge Road; and Wildflower Park, 2122 Aurora Ave.

Volunteers may register to help with any of the above projects or they can schedule a project at another park by contacting Lynnette Hoole at lhoole@napervilleparks.org or by calling her at (630) 848-3606.

Volunteers who golf or enjoy being out on a golf course are needed to assist staff in repairing our golf fairways and greens. Two-hour sessions are scheduled for the first Monday and Tuesday mornings of the month during April, May and June at Springbrook and Naperbrook golf courses. Interested volunteers may register for this project online at http://www.napervilleparks.org/volunteer-with-the-naperville-park-district.
