Elgin man gets jail time, probation for molesting teen

An Elgin man who police say molested a boy he met through the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse Thursday, court records show.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Brett Carmouche, 24, was sentenced to 144 days in jail and 30 months probation, records show.

The abuse did not take place on Boys and Girls Club premises or during club hours, according to a statement from the organization, which checks the criminal backgrounds of employees and volunteers.

The organization terminated Carmouche after his arrest.

"Our most important priorities are the safety and well-being of the children we serve," said Cathy Malkani, president of the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin in a prepared statement. "Boys & Girls Clubs of Elgin is committed to the highest standards of ethical behavior and integrity, and does not tolerate inappropriate or illegal activity on the part of any staff, volunteer or youth member."

Carmouche was hired in 2013, not long after he began volunteering for the organization in February or March of that year, prosecutors said. Police say he met the teen last summer and gave the boy his phone number and address, against club policy.

Prosecutors say Carmouche contacted the victim through Facebook and invited him to Carmouche's house, where Carmouche served him alcohol, prosecutors said. They say the teen passed out and awoke to find Carmouche molesting him.

The judge also ordered Carmouche to pay $1,189 in fines, records show.
