Nellessen found guilty of murdering father

Matthew Nellessen will face prison time now that a Cook County jury has found him guilty of first-degree murder in the 2011 beating and stabbing death of his father in the family's Arlington Heights home. Nellessen, 22, showed no emotion Wednesday after the verdict was announced. Prosecutors say on April 12, 2011, Nellessen struck his father in the head with a baseball bat and stabbed him in the neck with a knife while he was bound to a chair in his family room. Full story.

Condoleezza Rice speaks at Judson

Elgin's Judson University added to its mega-roster of world leaders who have come to campus in recent years, with an address Wednesday from former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. She delivered the keynote speech at the university's fourth annual World Leaders Forum, which has previously hosted former President George W. Bush, former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Full story.

Nurses going back to negotiating table

Negotiating teams for the management of the Maryville Behavioral Health Hospital in Des Plaines and a union representing nurses will be back at the negotiating table Friday to try to come to an agreement on staffing levels and salaries. Elgin woman facing cruelty charges gives up some animals

Stacy Fiebelkorn, the Elgin woman charged with animal cruelty and neglect, has agreed to relinquish ownership of her poultry, rabbits, most of her goats, an alpaca and a llama. But she is fighting Kane County's efforts to impound the rest of the goats, another alpaca and llama and several dozen horses. Full story.

Kane expected to be out 3 weeks

Bulls extend 76ers' losing streak
