Bedbugs found at Thompson Center

Officials say bedbugs were found at a downtown Chicago building where many state employees work.

Illinois Department of Revenue spokeswoman Sue Hofer said Wednesday that the bugs were found in seven cubicles on a single floor of the James R. Thompson Center last week. The offices used by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation were treated over the weekend. Officials are in the process of sterilizing paper.

Hofer says the bugs were located in an area where only state employees are allowed.

Bedbugs don't carry disease but spread easily.

Hofer says they were traced to an employee who had a home infestation. Employees were notified and instructed on how to prevent the spread.

The Thompson Center is where Gov. Pat Quinn and state constitutional officers have offices.
