Elgin father and daughter face drug charges

Editor's note: Cook County circuit court clerk's records show possession on cannabis charges against Tavia Perez were dismissed in August 2014. Court records show Efrain Perez pleaded guilty to manufacture and delivery of heroin in May 2014, and was sentenced to six years in prison.

A father and daughter from Elgin are facing drug charges after police were alerted by residents that drug sales might be taking place in the neighborhood.

Efrain Perez, 59, and Tavia Perez, 29, both of the 1200 block of Bradley Circle, were arrested Wednesday after police executed a search warrant following a monthlong investigation in which undercover detectives purchased cocaine and heroin from the elder Perez, Police Cmdr. Ana Lalley said Thursday in a news release.

Efrain Perez was charged with two felony counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, also a felony.

Efrain Perez's bond was set at $10,000 Thursday in Cook County, and his next court date is April 11.

Tavia Perez was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, a misdemeanor. She was released on bond, and her next court date is April 18 in Rolling Meadows.

Police recovered two grams of heroin and 28 grams of cannabis during the arrest, Lalley said.

“I want to commend the brave citizens on taking action and coming forward to report this illegal activity,” Elgin Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said in the news release.
