A Roselle man is being held in DuPage County jail, accused of possessing child pornography.
Bond was set at $75,000 Wednesday for Robert Schmidt, 47, of the 500 block of East Granville.
Schmidt has been charged with four counts of possession of child pornography following an investigation by Wheaton police officers who were led to Schmidt's home. According to prosecutors, Schmidt possessed roughly 600 images and videos of child pornography on his computer and a thumb drive.
"Child pornography continues to be a scourge on society claiming thousands of young victims every year," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "Every image of child pornography represents a young victim whose innocence was taken from them by sick individuals."
Schmidt will be arraigned April 14 by Judge Robert Kleeman. Additional conditions of Schmidt's bond, should he be able to post it, prohibit contact with children younger than 18 and any Internet access.
