Habitrot 5K at Trinity International University

The Trinity International University Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring its 3rd Annual Habitrot 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, April 5, at 8:00 a.m. Members of the community are invited to participate, and runners/walkers should gather on the Waybright Center Patio on campus at 2065 Half Day Road, Deerfield.

The cost to participate in the 5K is $25 for community members and $15 for students. Register in advance for the Habitrot 5K by visiting the website www.tiu.edu/Habitrot5k. A commemorative T-shirt from the event is included in the cost of registration. This year, a brand new course for the race has been mapped out on the Deerfield campus by a member of the TIU Cross Country Team.

Funds raised by the race will be used to build houses for families in need through Habitat for Humanity of Lake County, which has built 142 new homes since the local affiliate was established in 1989. Over the last several years, dozens of Trinity students have helped build houses with Habitat. The TIU Campus Chapter partners with the Lake County affiliate by raising awareness of both Habitat for Humanity and the need for affordable housing in Lake County, and by raising funds to help build houses through events like the Habitrot 5K.

The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to provide every man, woman and child with a decent, safe and affordable place to live. As an organization, Habitat builds and repairs houses all over the world using volunteer labor and donations. Partner families purchase these houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans or innovative financing methods.

To develop student leadership and the practice of service, the Student Ministries office of Trinity International University supports student-led outreach teams that challenge students to make an impact on campus, in the community and in the world. These ministry teams, such as the Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, provide compassionate outreach to various communities in the Chicagoland area.
