Miller wins McHenry Co. treasurer GOP primary

Glenda Miller won the Republican primary for McHenry County treasurer, according to Tuesday's unofficial vote tallies.

Miller, 58, of Harvard, who has worked as chief deputy treasurer for 17 years, had 14,665 votes, and Jeffrey Thorsen, a 55-year-old Crystal Lake councilman and vice president of FirstMerit Bank, had 11,890 votes with all 212 precincts reporting.

Miller will be unopposed in the November election unless the Democratic Party comes up with a candidate and enough signatures to run.

Provisional and late absentee ballots were not included in the count, McHenry County Clerk Kathy Schultz said.

Thorsen said he wanted to focus on finding ways to save, while Miller said her priority will be finding ways to improve the technology used by the office. Both have MBA degrees.

Miller said she is willing to explore investing the county's money in bonds, while Thorsen said he agreed with retiring treasurer Bill LeFew's conservative approach of investing with banks only.

If she wins the general election in November, Miller said she would step down from her township post.
