Home intruder shot in St. Charles Township

Kane County authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred in St. Charles Township Monday morning.

Kane County sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said a 43-year-old man shot a 26-year-old from St. Charles after he broke into a home at about 11:10 a.m. on the 38W0-99 block of Mallard Lake Road.

The intruder ran, was located a few blocks away and was later treated at a Delnor Hospital in Geneva for nonlife threatening injuries, Gengler said.

Gengler said it did not appear anything had been stolen from the home. He could not immediately specify where the intruder, who was having a surgical procedure at Delnor Monday afternoon, gained entry to the home.

Gengler said the intruder was shot once with a handgun, but he was not certain where.

No charges have been filed.

The homeowner had a valid Firearm Owners Identification card and was not injured.

“We're not looking for anybody else,” Gengler said. “There's no threat to public safety.”
