Des Plaines condo fire remains under investigation

A fire at a 7-story Des Plaines condominium building Friday started near building materials in a unit that was undergoing renovation, authorities said Monday.

An exact cause of the fire, which broke out at 5:19 p.m. at 555 S. River Road, is still being investigated, Fire Chief Alan Wax said.

The fire caused approximately $32,000 in damage to the fourth floor condo unit, which was unoccupied. No injuries were reported.
