Lake in the Hills set for new top cop

Lake in the Hills' deputy police chief has been tapped to lead the department, Mayor Paul Mulcahy has announced.

Mulcahy is recommending Dave Brey for the post, effective May 1. Current Chief James Wales is retiring April 30 after 35 years with the department.

Brey's appointment needs to be ratified by the village board. That could happen March 27.

Brey began his law-enforcement career in Lake in the Hills in 1992. He was promoted to sergeant in 2001 and deputy chief of patrol services in 2006.

"I am honored to be selected to serve the residents of Lake in the Hills as chief of police," Brey said in a news release. "(I) look forward to leading the fine men and women of the Lake in the Hills Police Department toward our goal of ensuring the safety of our community."
