Sheriff: 6-pound pot package delivered to Elgin

A 33-year-old Elgin woman was arrested after authorities intercepted a package from California sent to her home containing nearly six pounds of marijuana, according to Kane County court records and the sheriff's office.

Brianna L. Hagstrom, of the 600 block of Big Timber Road, was being held on $125,000 bail. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the most serious felony charge of cannabis trafficking. Probation is also an option.

Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said deputies worked with U.S. Postal Service inspectors to monitor the delivery of a package at Hagstrom's house at about 1:30 p.m. March 8.

The package was delivered and authorities seized 2,675 grams of marijuana — nearly 6 pounds — along with $1,500, Gengler said.

Hagstrom was not arrested at the time because she was caring for her child but she was picked up Monday on a warrant.

Gengler did not have an estimated street value for the drugs.

Hagstrom is next due in court Wednesday.
