Water Street Studios is calling all artists for spring show

Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St. in Batavia, is calling all artists interested in exhibiting in the spring show, opening Friday, April 11. The application packet is available online at www.waterstreetstudios.com and allows four pieces for consideration. The submission deadline is Sunday, March 16.

Water Street Studios welcomes artist and independent curator Jenny Lam as a guest juror for the Spring Show. Graduate of Columbia University in New York, Lam served as president of Postcrypt, Columbia's undergraduate art gallery and as head curator at 4Art Gallery. Her show, “I Can Do That,” was named audience choice for “Best Art Exhibit” in the 20th anniversary edition of NewCity's Best of Chicago issue.

“Bringing guest jurors in from outside our immediate community is a great way to increase exposure not only for Water Street Studios and the guest juror but also to showcase the diversity of talent in artists from the area” said Gallery Director Steven Lockwood.

Out of the many artists who will submit for the show, the jury panel will select one Best of Show within the honorable mention artists. Best of Show will be awarded $250 and a free two-week solo show in Water Street Studios' gallery. Honorable mention artists are awarded $100 each and receive benefits such as announcements on the website and use of images on promotional material.

Water Street Studios is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization focused on the advancement of art education and appreciation through the promotion of fine arts throughout the Chicago suburbs by offering classes, studio space, and hosting an array of events as well as showcasing a new exhibit four times a year. The Spring Show is following the current exhibit, “I AMerican,” curated by Sergio Gomez, which runs until March 30.
