Hearing set for daughter in $7M shoplifting case

A federal judge in Chicago is set to decide whether a third alleged participant in a $7 million shoplifting case should remain in remain in jail ahead of her trial.

Tuesday's detention hearing for Julia Bogdanov comes a day after the judge said her parents were flight risks and should stay in jail.

The three are accused of working in tandem for years to pilfer merchandise nationwide from their home base in a wealthy suburban Chicago neighborhood.

Prosecutors indicated Monday they were open to freeing the 34-year-old daughter.

But the judge says she must find a suitable custodian to take responsibility for her, rejecting the defense's suggestion because the person had an arrest record for retail theft.

Each of the Bogdanovs faces a stolen-property charge. None have entered a plea.
