The Northshore Academy of Martial Arts, 281 Peterson Road, Libertyville, hosts a free self-defense class on Saturday, March 15. The event features keynote speaker Heidi Damon, who was brutally attacked on Aug. 19, 2009, escaped and confronted her attacker in court. She will discuss her story of survival, taking back control and recovery. Damon will speak from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by the self-defense class from 2 to 3 p.m. The program is open to men, women and children over the age of 9.
