Illinois Chiropractic Foundation (ICF) Recommends Chiropractic Care To Help Treat Obesity

With warm weather months approaching, it's the perfect time to start thinking about getting out and getting active. According to the United States Surgeon General, however, nearly 2 out of every 3 Americans are either overweight or obese. Those extra pounds carried not only contribute to high blood pressure and heart disease, they also cause serious, painful musculoskeletal problems that make it difficult to live an active lifestyle.

"The excess weight we carry affects all the joints in our bodies-especially the hips, knees, ankles and feet-often leading to lower back pain," cautions not-for-profit Illinois Chiropractic Foundation's Warren Bruhl, D.C., who also serves as Executive Director of Northbrook-based youth charity Gear for Goals.

Dr. Bruhl and the Illinois Chiropractic Foundation encourage Illinois residents that if they are one of the many millions dealing with obesity, to please consider contacting their local doctor of chiropractic who can help guide them to a healthier lifestyle by offering safe, cost-efficient treatments that can help relieve musculoskeletal pain stemming from obesity.

"Regular exercise is an absolute must when implementing a weight-loss program, however, if you are in significant pain, exercise is often not possible, or even safe," says Dr. Bruhl. "Chiropractors can help patients with many physical ailments and can help council patients to improve wellness, offering a proactive approach to help prevent injury, relieve stress, and target obesity." Chiropractors are devoted to the health and well-being of their communities and are also experts in nutrition.
