Northbrook Park District announces summer camp locations
Ready for summer? The Northbrook Park District is putting the finishing touches on its summer camps and workshops – hiring staff, announcing locations and accepting registration while space is available.
“Now is the best time to sign up for camps to ensure summer days filled with fun, laughter, friends and exciting adventures,” said Frank Lamberti, Leisure Services Manager with the Northbrook Park District. “We are grateful for our community partners who share their sites, so that we can have outdoor and indoor space for our campers. This summer, camp will be held at nine central locations, including five schools, the Leisure Center, Northbrook Sports Center, Village Green Center, and Congregation Beth Shalom, adjacent to the Leisure Center.”
Camp programs are scheduled to begin on June 9 with a one-week Summer Warm-Up. Some children still will be in school then, because of days added to make up for “snow days.” To accommodate parents, the Park District will offer daily registration for that program, which typically offers field trips, crafts, sports and games.
Four-week camps begin on June 16 and July 14. The choices include variety camps and specialty programs for art, golf, hockey, ice skating, performing arts and sports. Extended care is available before and after most camps. Wrapping up the summer, Awesome August Camp invites students in kindergarten through 7th grade to enjoy an extra week of activities from August 11-15 with a field trip each day.
“The camp experience promotes teamwork, friendship and fun at an affordable price,” Lamberti added. “We value old-fashioned games and activities but also introduce kids to teamwork, challenges and new activities to keep them engaged and active. Our camps help children grow as they enjoy new experiences and increase their self-esteem. We look forward to making the summer of 2014 a memorable one for every camper.”
Northbrook Park District camps serve children from ages 2 through 16. Almost 2,400 children attended the programs last summer. NSSRA support staff is available to assist campers with special needs; parents can request assistance when registering.
