Elgin's Side Street Studio Arts presents 'Here Comes the Sun' exhibit

Side Street Studio Arts, a storefront gallery and performance space in downtown Elgin at 15 Ziegler Court, presents "Here Comes the Sun," curated by and featuring the work of Elgin artist David Yurgil, as well as Jen-A-Fur, Shealyn Boland, Nicholas Earl, Stephen Lejeune, Tessa Hayes, and Trevor Mckee. The exhibit will be on display through Sunday, March 9, with artist receptions and musical performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 7 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 8.

"Here Comes the Sun is a show of appreciation for all the people who come into our lives," Yurgil told local art magazine Mere Fragments. "It's dedicated to the bonds that have been created, and how they continuously grow in a positive way."

To that end, March 7 will feature an acoustic set by the Rebel Angels, DJ Mark Lane, and an open jam session throughout the evening. March 8 will feature music performances by Greg Rouse, The Havens, DJ Mark Lane, and another open jam session. There is a $5 suggested donation at the door.

"Here Comes the Sun" is the first exhibit of the studio's external project proposal program. Artists and performers are invited to propose projects of all types to be produced and supported by the resources of the studio.

Side Street Studio Arts was founded in 2013 by Tanner Melvin and Erin Rehberg as an outlet for the artists of Elgin. Currently under the direction of Amanda Harris, Melvin, and Rehberg, its mission is to provide an accessible space, run by artists, encouraging all aspects of the artistic process from creation to curation.
